Dancing Thru Pregnancy (DTP) is a continuous fitness and well-being program based on principles of dance, exercise physiology and group support. It is specifically designed to enhance the pregnancy, ease discomforts, and provide skills for labor and delivery.
AfterDance (AD) is a workout and nurture program designed for the postpartum woman and her baby. It focuses on cardiovascular fitness, strength and re-alignment, as well as providing an opportunity for mom to participate positively with her baby in a group setting.
Moving Thru Life is a program of health and fitness activities for menopausal and post menopausal women.
Program Development Services in women's health and fitness are available to institutions, organizations and companies desiring assistance in establishing high quality programs for their employees and members. Among the organizations for whom DTP has provided services are the US Army, Yale-New Haven Hospital and Reebok International, Ltd.
The top priorities of DTP & AD are the safety, health, and well-being of the mother and infant. The program takes an integrative approach to the many physical, mental and emotional challenges at this important time in their lives.
Nutritional information, safety guidelines, exercise benefits, parenting skills, and successful movement activities have been skillfully arranged in a fun program for participants. Certified instructors have been educated and tested about the factors that reliably produce a "healthy mothers having healthy babies" situation.
DTP & AD are unique programs. Right from the start the approach has been to create something totally new, designed solely for the prenatal/postpartum period. Rather than simply modify existing types of exercise, the idea is to approach the class as a choreographic challenge...to create shared movement experiences that work on several levels for the participants.
DTP, Inc. Women's Health and Fitness programs are based on the idea that women will achieve their optimum well-being by participating in women-centered activities.
Since 1982, Dancing Thru Pregnancy, Inc. has participated in research studies and conducted regular surveys of its graduates. During 1992-93, the cesarean delivery rate at Yale New Haven Hospital (the program connected with our corporate office) was 4%, compared with the overall hospital rate of 18%. An independent study done in 1991, placed the combined forceps and extraction rate at less than 6%.
Customer satisfaction is extremely high. Our many "fan" letters testify to the positive impact on participants' lives. Many women repeat the program with second and/or third babies. No injuries or complications have resulted from participation in the program since its founding in 1979.
